![]() ![]() Ford 8n draft control spring adjustment If all of the parts in in good shape you may be able to get by by adjusting the springs to the lengths it says as those lengths should be the original factory settings. I'm sure that I am the least informed about your hydraulics.but, since nobody has responded, here goes. Ford Tractor 2000, 3000, Lift Draft Control Spring-C5NN547 Home FORD. I built my tractor AND hydraulics from used components and found it to be low on power. But, when I began to adjust the screw needle on the controls, pressure jumped dramatically and lift increased the same. I was so impressed I chained a heavy load into the bucket and it lifted it instantly. The draft control lever switches the lift system between position control mode and draft control mode. and readjust the draft and position control adjustments. I increased pressure some more, I was so impressed, and didn't bother to climb aboard.just lifted away. Back working on the Ford 3000, this time we dive into the hydraulic system. Suddenly the load shifted and the tractor slowly rolled over to the right - ALL THE WAY! While it was on it's side I took the opportunity to service things on the underside etc. On the next small lift the entire front axle came off! Soooo, adjust for REASONABLE pressure and the problem may be solved. If you don't already have a gauge in the line, put one in. Make sure your lever is in the 'up' position. The lift does not work as well in the draft position. The 'down' lever position is for 'draft control' - used primarily for plowing. Old units like mine were good for 2 or 3,000psi and large diameter cylinders. The 'up' lever position is for 'position control' - used for lifting implements and holding them in position. One manual calls out 4 1/8' (see below.an it also references 'earlier' models as compared to 'current models' but it doesn't give. to rear leveling for side draft control Notched blades standard/plain blades optional. I'm told the new tractors have smaller cylinder diameter but produce a lot of pressure. The dimension to set the position lever from 'full up' to the set point by which to make linkage adjustments don't match from manual to manual. The 5 1/2 discs have two adjustments and the 6 1/2 has three. I'm sure most of the forum members would know that figure. I found that with too much pressure adjusted in, the lift was violent and jerky. The tractor seems to actually jump with the slightest movement of the control. Each control should have a screw adjustment I'm thinkin'. I can't wait to see what people say who actually know their stuff. I'm sure someone knows your controls and will help.but I was thinking it possible that your 3pt control had been set low. How to Repair Ford Hydraulics: Lift and Draft Control for 600, 700, 800, 900, 2000, 4000 Tractors. More pressure will definitely speed it up, if you have that adjustment. I do have the Ford service and operator manual. I just love this forum! Even I can offer advice on stuff I know little about. I bought a 1966 Ford 3000 diesel that needed some work, nothing serious yet. Turn off the engine and remove the right side access cover (the one with the dipstick) and slide your hand down along the control rod into the oil and feel the end of the rod where it goes into the control valve pivot. It can be adjusted without them but is difficult and must be done before reinstalling the cover assembly onto the tractor. They should put my picture on that little icon that bangs himself on the head. To make it work properly after repairing it you really need a couple of special setting tools from the manufacturer. ![]() Either the control linkage is damaged or came apart or the valve is stuck inside. To repair your problem the lift cover will need to be removed from the tractor. If you don't use it you can install a block off plate in its place but someday down the road someone will want that valve on there and to buy a new one will run several hundred dollars. ![]() If there was a problem with the remote valve on top then the lift arms would not work at all. The added remote valve bolted to the top of the cover actually gets oil first and whatever is not used by it goes to the lift cover to work the arms. The lift arms going up as soon as the tractor starts indicates the control linkage is damaged or the control valve spool is stuck. ![]()
